Audience.

Our target audience is aimed at teenagers mainly ranging from 16+. As most teeenagers they like to 'dos' around during the day and weekends in such coffee houses like starbucks and other cafes alike. During the evening attending local gigs, bars, nightclubs and commercial pubs. They have expensive taste for Designer clothes like Vivienne Westwood but also shopping in Topshop/Topman and Urban Outfitters. Majority of their clothes being heavily influenced by hippy or festival like fashion. Whilst following leading trends they also tend to have individual items of clothing/jewlerry/ piercings/tatoos and hairstyles. They have an experimental nature. Trying different trends being one of them but also with music, sports and illegal things such as drugs and raves. Typical of having a 'open minded' nature they watch and listen to all types of broadcasting. From Reality TV to Serial dramas, From Live lounge to Classic FM. Mainly watching shows like T4 Sundays, Project Runway, America's next top Model, Girls of the playboy mansion. Celebrity infulences such as Kate Moss, Pete Docherty, Fearne Cotton, Steve Jones. Social networking sites like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter they primarily use. Artists and Bands they follow again is varied from Kasaibian to Old school Hip Hop such as Notorious BIG. Most of the Audience i have described would aspire to work within the industrys they love; fashion, magazine, music, TV, theatre, graphic design and finally journalism.
To find out this i asked various people form 3 very different social groups in appearance, behaviour and social status. I asked two people from each social group all of which attend Sixth Form. The categories i self named them were Indie, Preppy and Rockers. When asking them i found that although very different in appearance maybe not so in attitude and preference. A particular person from the "Indie" social group liked Tupac music something of which i woundt necessarily associate with a person who brands themselves indie. Like this i found one boy who liked 90210 and The Hills - usually something of which is consider to be a "girls" programme. So with my research i found out what was popular and common interests among all. For example social networking sites such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter are highly used, daily by all teens. Across the board televison stations like E4, T4, BBC 3, ITV2 i found to be the most popular stations watched. With my research found to be true in some places i intend to target it at the tpe of people.Majority of the students i spoke to all enjoyed going to coffee houses such as Starbucks to say Mcdonalds. Media studies amongst Drama, Dance, English Lit&Lang and Sociology were the most common lessons students picked. In contast to this i found people also picked History, Maths and IT. As i had imagined from my own personal preference the girls i spoke to shop in Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Asos and Primark where as some boys prefer to go by label such as Lyle&Scott, Aquascoot and some of the older reocurring brands such as Fila and Gola (both considered once to be quite below standard). All students i spoke to say they would like to go at least one event/ festival this year. The hottest ones being V festival and Glastonbury. With the people i asked i found most of my targets to be accurate. I learnt that social status can be decieving as after this i found were all quite simular. The teens i am aiming at all have a care free and experimental attitude. Our audience will consist of these types of people.

Production Manager

I was chosen to be Production Manager whilst Jake was the director and Victoria the producer. I think i was chosen because i am a good communicator. As production manager the role primarily involves having to negotiate things such as cast, budget and location and being the link between the producer, director and also the clientel. In our video our chosen location is for a few, the Hewett school field, football ground, elm hill. We have chosen these particular locations because the Hewett school field in the evening will be desolate and that is what we want for the video. Elm Hill is a nice part of Norwich we want this to feature in the video purely because its the type of character we are representing a nice "normal" lad. Our video is about insomnia so we will feature things withing that semantic field like a clocks and a bed. Were only going to have one leading role as this is to add to lonliness. Jake's dad has a studio he uses for photography, Jake said its available for us to use for the shoot. Our one cast member is a friend named George Browne who has happily agreed to take on the role.

Image of Letter.

This is a image of the letter of response to our clients about the previous days meeting. I wrote the Letter.

My Personal Response To The Meeting.

What did you do to prepare for the meeting?
we got all of our stuff together like our treatment, covering letter, moodboard.
Also we rehearsed in what order we would say things for example victoria spoke about the budget firstly and i went onto talk about the moodboard and what the illustrations meant.

What roles did you have during the meeting?
In the meeting i personally talked through the moodboard and the visuals for the video i.e the actor, the location and small things like hair and make up.

How effectively did you communicate during the meeting?
I think i did okay, i think Naomi and Cedella understood clearly what we had intended for the video. I managed to quickly think of an answer to one particular question that i didnt necessarily know the answer to also.

What problems/actions points arose and how will you work to solve this?
One problem we encountered was the budget was slightly over by £86.82 we then reduced it by £200 it then coming to £4886. There wasn't really any other problems.

What will your group do next on the production or on the client communication?
After responding back to the clients with a letter its a matter or preparing things, speaking to our one cast member and thinking forward to filming.

I have chose esOterica as like The Jubilees they were unsigned for a longtime and only now just had there big break with a tour of europe supporting Marilyn Manson, i think our audience would like esOterica because of the fact they were an unsigned act for a while and that's why they like The Jubilees who are pretty unknown. Also the song titled "Silence" is something involved in insomnia.

Our Stationary

This is a copy of the moodboard myself, Jake and Vikki produced. When doing the moodboard i personally cut out images and stuck them down.

This is a copy of our treatment displaying what our proposed idea is for the video. When we produced the treatment i partly wrote it along with Vikki.

This is a copy of our letter to our clinets Naomi and Cedella. I wrote this.
Like Oasis Suede were in the Britpop era but not so key as Oasis and Blur was. I chose to use The Beautiful Ones as it promotes almost a care free attitude, unlike The Jubilees - Insomniac which is quite intense, serious and mood dampening, but i believe the audience we want would like and relate to Suede.

Oasis also have a nasal almost spoken lazy vocal and heavy guitar involvement. Like The Jubilees Oasis tend to write songs about what they are feeling. Oasis are known as being apart of the famous Britpop era and The Jubilees sound could almost fit into that bracket but probably more of a follow on to that like indie.

We were asked to find four videos that reflect our purposed audience. This is just one i chose, artic monkey - flourescent adolescent, the reason i chose this is because there lazy almost spoken vocal and heavy instrument (mainly guitar) sound is simular to that of The Jubilees - Insominiac.

Writing the BLOG

Hi. My name is Tuesdy George, that's Tuesdy not Tuesday! Now we have cleared that up i can go on to tell you abit about myself. I live in Great Yarmouth where i attended Great Yarmouth High after achieving 7 GCSE's i opted to reach out and go to City College Norwich for a new experience and new social life! I took the course creative and media due to its appeal of keeping your options open sort of speak and allowing you to delve into all sorts of practises. From Fashion to Events Management is what i am interested in.

Reflective Log 11/11/2009

As a group we have had a meeting with the clients Naomi and Cedella and discussed the context of the video for the song Jubilees - Insomniac. Then agreeing on what the clients would like to see we went away and produced a (YOUNIQUE music produktions ) covering letter, treatment letter heads, a logo and invoices - of which all have the same logo as we like to keep within the same theme. All our documents are printed on black backround and white writing, this is to emphasise that we are a specialist company in black and white film. We specialise in black and white filming because Jake has a contact who will allow us to use their studio lights and studio.
After a while Jake, Myself and Vicki have figured out what our strengths and weaknesses are and who is best suited to which task. I produced the covering letter aswell as being heavily involved in the writing of the treatment.
When it comes to the budget i have been allocated the title of production manager mainly because i am a good communicator. Whereas Jake is Director as he is creative and Vicki is the producer as she is organised and hardworking. Jake has discussed with a potential actor the possibility of doing the shoot and he has agreed, were only going to have one principal role; so for now thats all the casting will be looking at doing. We now need to ensure the location and put the budget in place. Rehearse the shoot and finally filming it!

Brief

Band Name: The Jubilees

Song Name: Insomniac

Agent’s names: Naomi & Cedella

Mixing sunny, Killer synths with gritty northern abandon, The Jubilees ooze both attitude and ambition. Already noticed by NME magazine the new band is smashing their way to the top of the charts. The London four pieces have built a solid reputation in their locality and are now looking to rock the world. After several successful performances and demos The Jubilees are ready to kick start their career. The next leap for the fresh indie rockers is to focus on their upcoming tour featuring this year’s chart topping band ‘The Thrillers’ and to release their brand new single with their jaw dropping video, DON’T MISS OUT!

Genre and style: Dynamic indie rock

Influences: The Thrillers, Metalica, The Chemical Heads & The Chew Lips.

Target audience: Middle class, 14-25’s people who are free spirited individual and quirky, 60% women who find the band members attractive. Their image would come across as casual with limited colours however people who are more interested in indie rather than rock would come across a lot brighter with a lot of patterns on their clothing.

What is the purpose of the video: To promote the bands image and to have the singer prominently featured, the video would be of a live performance with emphasis on the instruments they are playing and it’s got to have a strong appeal to women. Throughout the video it should cut to significant moments in their lives of how they got to where they are today.

How do music videos use cinematogrophy using camera angles and shot types

In this paticular music video of "firestarter" by the prodigy, the camera shots are varied and consist of close ups and extreme long shots. The camera angles used is tracking when he looks as though he is running. Steadycam is also used yet at times the camera seems somewhat unsteardy as the images appear disorientated therefore making us feel more involved in the panic and confusion we can visually see. The video is more of an experience rather than a story

Conventions of Music Videos

Today we looked at 3 music videos all by different artists and with various themes.
The videos were different in all manners of ways, firstly the first video watched called "Im on a boat" showed a dramatic difference in how it was filmed in comparision to Judith's video. T pains spoof "Im on a boat" showed us its glamorous and expensive appeal by the camera shots being so clear and precise and set on an expensive boat. Whereas the other video prooving typical of a rock band video, being set in a abandoned and desolate warehouse and the camera shots being somewhat shaky and unclear. Both of the videos costumes, props, lighting and setting have a link between that and the lyrics, so the visuals match the lyrics.
